I have been working with Viking the past year, and I am pleased to announce that I have tried all of their shafts (as you may have read.) The V-Pro is a standard maple shaft that can be cut or extended to meet the needs of the player.
It has a firm, stiff feel like many maple shafts do. I would definitely recommend any and all levels of player to deal with Viking. They have really gone out of their way to make a quality product that people of any skill level can come to appreciate, and it has been a pleasure to work with them.
The shaft is really something different than what I have shot with before. As I’m doing these reviews it’s important to realize that they are not all the same, and that each one of them has a personality of its own.
I honestly didn’t like the feel of this shaft when I first shot with it on the table. I have been shooting with a low deflection shaft, which the V-Pro is not…
So I needed to take a step back and re-establish the way I play the game, as you need to do with any equipment change.
This shaft is Viking’s introductory model shaft. It comes with a LePro non-layered tip. What I find is that, for me, this shaft has become a stroke trainer in a lot of ways. I requested the shaft in an 11.75mm and was pleased at the taper that they were able to provide.
I honestly would recommend this shaft to a new or novice player to get your feel of what Viking cues can offer.
It’s a low cost shaft that will allow you to upgrade into other Viking products once you establish your needs as a pool player.
What are you looking for in a new shaft? I think once you figure out what you are looking for, it will get a lot easier to figure out which shaft will work best for you. Whatever it is, Viking has the shaft to fit your needs. I would give this shaft a three out of five Sneaky Pete’s for the introductory price rate, and it’s a great non low deflection shaft.
